On Sunday 3rd June 2007 Mick Gosling in association with Stafford Borough Concil Leisure Services brought us the "Stafford Superior Strongman Competition", held at Rowley Park, Stafford. The first place prize of £1000, plus £100 available for the winner of each individual event attracted a strong field of 18 competitors. Preceedings on the day were overseen by none other than former British, European and World's Strongest Man, Geoff Capes.

Loading & Press - This event saw 2 challenges. The competitors had to load 4 90kg gas cylinders onto a platform, ensuring that they stood upright. Upon completing this they were to return to the start line and press a 110kg log to stop the clock.

Motorcycle Press - In a twist on the traditional Viking Press, this event saw competitors pressing a 110kg motorcycle for reps within a time limit of 75 seconds.

Dustcart Pull - Under the heat of the midday sun competitors pulled a 14.5 ton dustcart promoting "Recycle for Staffordshire" over a 25 metre course. A time limit of 75 seconds was give, but all athletes completed this comfortably.

Hercules Hold- This event saw athletes taking one jeep in each hand. Chalk only was allowed, no tacky.

Railway Sleeper Flip - The final event of the day entailed flipping a 170kg railway sleeper along a 20 meter course. On breaking the end line, the competitors were then required to to flip the sleeper back to the start line. A 75 second time limit was in place though unfortunatley nobody managed to complete the course in this time so distances were measured.

Final Results

After a successful day prize money was awarded to the top three atheletes. The winer of each individual event also took home £100, and a trophy was also awarded to Derrick Lynagh who was chosen as "Best Newcomer".
