The British Beer Barrel Throwing Championships 2004 were held alongside the Past It MotorCycle Club's 7th Zimmer Frame Rally at the Farmers Arms in Kempsey, Worcestershire.

The competition worked on a similar principal as a high jump competition, with each contestant attempting to throw an empty beer barrel over a 'wall' gradually increased in height. Each contestant was allowed three attempts at each height, and three failures at one height saw them eliminated.

Competition commenced with four brave ladies, none of whom had any previous strength athletics experience, taking on the challenge. The ladies began at a height of 10 feet, this being easily cleared by the eventual winner of the female British Beer Barrel Throwing Championships 2004 Lynnette Bristow, who continued alongside the men's competition to clear a winning height of 16 feet. The results of this competition stood as follows:

The men's competition started at 12 feet and the majority of the experienced athletes cleared this with unbelievable ease. A winning height of 23 feet by Dean Slater was incredible, and it was a closely fought competition all the way through.  This competition also saw entry by novice strongmen and bikers from the accompanying bike rally, whose efforts must be commended. The results of the competition stood as follows:

We believe Dean's winning height of 23 feet may have set a new record, in the 1997 World's Strongest Man competition in Las Vegas Bill Lyndon's winning height was just 19' 7" (5.95m). Well done to all our competitors who managed to clear this.

Thanks must go to our sponsors, without whom this competition could not have gone ahead. Entry fees and crowd support raised over £150 for the chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Relief.
